Not-So-Special Specialist

I put in a call to our doctor today, because after 7 days on the medication, Tehilla is still pulling her ears and clawing at her head. The Otidin helps her. In fact, it's the only thing that helps her, and as soon as it wears off, she starts crying and pulling her ears again.

Our doctor sent us to an ENT to take a look at what is going on. Luckily, we were able to get an emergency appointment. The ENT took a look at her ears and throat and said there is no infection. When I asked him why she was in such misery, he just shrugged and said, "Maybe her ears hurt."  Oh, thank you for clearing that up.

On the plus side, the Otidin drops are giving her relief and allowing her to nap and sleep for several hours at night. At least the infection itself, is definitely gone and with the added rest, her body will hopefully bounce itself back.

  1. Pain can linger after infection. "Otitis media with effusion (OME) sometimes happens after an ear infection has run its course and fluid stays trapped behind the eardrum. A child with OME may have no symptoms, but a doctor will be able to see the fluid behind the eardrum with a special instrument.
Chronic otitis media with effusion (COME) happens when fluid remains in the middle ear for a long time or returns over and over again, even though there is no infection. COME makes it harder for children to fight new infections and also can affect their hearing."

  2. Thank you! The ENT did not mention any fluid in her ear. I also, did not feel that he was thorough by any means. If she is still in pain in another few days, I will take her to someone else.

I really appreciate you posting this!
